Trips to Mayport

Since its commissioning in December 1942, Naval Station Mayport has grown to become the third largest fleet concentration area in the United States. Mayport's operational composition is unique, with a busy harbor capable of accommodating 34 ships and an 8,000-foot runway capable of handling any aircraft in the Department of Defense inventory.

With more than 3,400 acres, NS Mayport is host to more than 70 tenant commands, 20 other naval ships, and six Light Airborne Multi-purpose System (LAMPS) Mark III helicopter squadrons. NS Mayport is also the operational and training headquarters for the SH-60B Seahawk LAMPS MKIII with a primary mission of anti-submarine warfare.

The Navy at Mayport covers 3,409 acres and is the third largest Naval Facility in the continental United States. As a major Surface and Air Warfare organization, Mayport remains dedicated to providing the "Finest Service to the Finest Fleet, "as it grows into the 21st century. Lunch has been arranged at the Ocean Breeze ( Officers Club and is included in price ).

Kings Bay Submarine Base (limited groups)

We board our motor coach at 8:00 AM and head for a very special place. Kings Bay Navy Base. It takes a VERY special person to work on a Submarine. This is a 90,000 acre base. There are not enough words to describe what you will see here. One display of missiles will show you where we stand today as a great nation and one of the super powers. In today's age one missile launched from a sub can destroy 25 cities! We will board one of the nuclear submarines and get a chance to talk to some of the men as we walk through. ( Please note if you have a hard time walking in tight places or bending down to get through the ship it is advised you do NOT take the ship part of the tour). We are trying for the USS Tennessee. The type of submarine we tour will depend on what ships are in at the time we take the tour.
